HEARSAY

HEARSAY

“He will take delight in obeying the Lord.  He will not judge by mere

appearances, or make decisions on the basis of hearsay.”

(Isaiah 11:3)

We live in a world that is currently filled with ‘hearsay.”  Hearsay is information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate.  Many times, we base whether we trust what we hear on how much we ‘trust’ the one who is relaying the information.  But the Word of God warns us against ‘trusting’ any man, instead we are only to Trust God.

“Let no one deceive you with empty words …” (Ephesians 5:6). The definition of hearsay is:  Information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate, i.e., rumor.  It seems we have a lot of that now, doesn’t it?

As children of God we are responsible for discerning Truth.  Likewise, we are to do what is ‘pleasing to the Lord’ at all times.  Hearsay is not only harmful, but it can also be dangerous.  Falling into the trap of believing everything you hear is not only irresponsible, but it takes your heart away from being Christ-centered.  Lying spirits which breed deception are everywhere now.  Remember, we are to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16), meaning alert and prudent, but also gentle and peaceful.

Next time your ears are pricked by what you hear, and you begin to ‘react’ … ask yourself, O child of God, if Jesus would have reacted?

Selah.
